Eating Foods for CrossFit Success

If you’re like many of us, you’ve been doing your best to stay fit. But, did you know that what you put into your body is just as important as the exercise you do? That’s right! Eating healthy and nutrient-rich foods can make all the difference in achieving the results you want from CrossFit. Let’s take a look at some of the best foods for success.

1. Lean Meats – Protein is essential for any fitness program, especially when it comes to CrossFit. Lean meats such as chicken, turkey, and fish are great sources of protein that won't weigh you down with too much saturated fat and sodium. These lean proteins will help fuel your muscle recovery and provide energy during your workouts. You can also incorporate red meats too! I personally incorporate them a bit more sparingly.

 

2. Seeds & Nuts – Seeds and nuts are high in healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals that can help keep your energy levels up throughout the day. They also contain essential fatty acids like omega-3s which can reduce inflammation caused by rigorous exercise. Try incorporating flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, almonds, walnuts, or cashews into your meals for an extra nutritional boost! Just make sure to keep fat intake levels to what is recommended for your body composition!

 

3. Whole Grains – Whole grains are packed with complex carbohydrates which provide slow-release energy during workouts so you don’t get too fatigued too quickly. Additionally they contain fiber which helps regulate digestion and keeps hunger at bay between meals. Try adding quinoa or brown rice to meals for an extra dose of nutrition!

 

4. Fruits & Veggies – Fruits and vegetables have long been heralded as superfoods thanks to their abundance of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber, and other nutrients that are essential to overall health and fitness goals alike! Leafy greens like spinach and kale are especially nutrient-dense while fruits like apples and oranges offer a sweet treat without compromising on nutrition or flavor!

Putting the right foods into your body is just as important as exercising when it comes to achieving success in CrossFit — or any other physical activity for that matter! Lean meats, seeds & nuts, whole grains, fruits & veggies; these are all great options to incorporate into a balanced diet for improved performance at the gym or on the field!
