5 Things You Didn't Know About Nutrition

1. Nutrition is more than just eating healthy foods.

It’s true that eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein is important for good health. But nutrition is also about getting the right balance of nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber. Additionally, good nutrition means eating in a way that helps to maintain a healthy weight and prevents chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

2. You don’t have to be on a ‘diet’ to be healthy. Your ‘diet’ can simply be how we refer to your eating style/habits.

Many people think that in order to be healthy, they need to go on a diet. But this isn’t necessarily true! While some people may need to lose weight for their health, others may just need to make sure they’re eating enough of the right foods. Your diet is going to be specific to YOU, since your body has different needs than those around you.

3. There are many different types of diets out there – and not all of them are healthy.

If you’re thinking about starting a new diet, it’s important to do your research first. Some diets may help you lose weight in the short-term but can be harmful to your health in the long-run. For example, crash diets or fad diets that eliminate entire food groups or require you to eat unrealistic amounts of food (or things like the juice diet or soup diet) are not likely to be sustainable or healthy.

4. You don’t have to give up all your favorite foods to eat healthy.

Eating healthy doesn’t mean you have to give up all your favorite foods! In fact, most foods can fit into a healthy diet if you eat them in moderation and pair them with other nutrient-rich foods. For example, you can still enjoy a piece of cake or a glass of wine occasionally – just make sure they’re not the only things you’re eating! Balance out your single portion desserts with a nutritious dinner that includes a lean protein, veggie, some healthy fats, and a yummy nutritious carb source!

5. Good nutrition is important at every stage of life.

It’s never ‘too late’ – or too early for that matter – to start eating healthy foods! Good nutrition is important at every stage of life, from infancy through adulthood. Eating nutritious foods can help babies and children grow and develop properly, boost immunity, and prevent chronic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes later in life.
